Lifetime Warranty Terms and Conditions

Warranty conditions from January 1, 2022
At FYEO, the pillars of honesty, comfort and the best result are paramount. For you, this means that FYEO offers you a lifelong warranty on the treatment that you have chosen together with the ophthalmologist.

You can rely on our personal and highly qualified service. Through our highly skilled team of optometrists and ophthalmologists, as well as our investments in the latest technologies, FYEO achieves excellent treatment results. With our lifetime warranty on your treatment, we take this to the highest level.

A lifetime warranty on your initial treatment means that you are entitled to a retreatment for the rest of your life when your visual acuity of your eyes deteriorates due to refraction (change in strength). We will continue to offer you this lifetime warranty as long as FYEO exists as an organization.

Lifetime warranty on laser eye treatments

This lifetime warranty applies to the eye laser treatments ReLEx SMILE, IntraLasik, TransPRK and Lasek. In order to be eligible for this warranty, it is necessary that you attend all follow-up checks at FYEO during the first year after the eye laser treatment. A retreatment after eye laser treatment can only be performed after a proven stable eye measurement, which is often achieved after one year. As a result, there is generally no retreatment in the first year after your eye laser treatment. If it turns out that the strength after a proven stable eye measurement still does not have the desired result, we can assess whether you may be eligible for a retreatment. The FYEO ophthalmologist will assess whether a better result can be achieved through a repeat treatment and whether this is medically responsible.

There are situations where retreatment is not recommended. This is the case when:

  • The residual deviation is less than the spherical equivalent of +1.00 dioptres or -0.75 dioptres, in which case the individual circumstances are examined and the ophthalmologist assesses whether retreatment is justified;
  • There is reduced vision (temporary or permanent) due to an accident or trauma to the eye;
  • Conditions such as diabetes, active autoimmune diseases or collagen vascular abnormalities are present;
  • Excessive irregular astigmatism is present, such as in corneal ectasia;
  • The thickness and/or curvature (K-values) of the cornea is no longer sufficient to perform a re-treatment. In most cases this has already been discussed with you during the (initial) preliminary examination;
  • You have suffered a complication during the initial treatment that poses a high risk of re-treatment;
  • There is only a higher order aberration, such as halos or glare, poorer night vision. This while the visual acuity is good;
  • There is dry eyes. This can also reduce visual acuity, but this cannot be remedied with retreatment.

There are situations where a retreatment is not performed and you therefore cannot derive any right from the lifetime warranty. These are situations when:

  • The deterioration in visual acuity is caused by your own actions (for example, rubbing your eye or not following the aftercare instructions);
  • The residual deviation is so small that improvement in vision is expected;
  • Treatment (or retreatment) has taken place in a clinic other than FYEO;
  • The reduced vision only for near (think of reading, screen distance, but also the dashboard of the car, sheet music and similar distances) causes problems as a result of presbyopia (age-related farsightedness). Changes in the eye lens due to age occur that make it difficult to accommodate or focus;
  • The residual deviation cannot be corrected with laser eye treatment (for example because the cornea is too thin or because you suffer from dry eyes) or lens replacement;
  • The development of a residual abnormality and/or deterioration of vision is caused by other conditions such as changes in the lens of the eye (cataract);
  • After the initial laser eye treatment at FYEO for other eye problems, eye surgery has taken place (such as retina, cornea, cataract or vitreous surgery);
  • When you have decided together with the ophthalmologist to keep a difference in outcome as a target. Think of monovision to not become completely dependent on reading glasses.

Lifetime warranty ExtraLens treatment

This lifetime warranty applies to the ExtraLens treatments. In order to be eligible for this warranty, it is necessary that you attend all follow-up checks at FYEO during the first year after the ExtraLens treatment. A repeat treatment after an ExtraLens treatment can only be performed after a proven stable eye test, which is often achieved after one year. As a result, there is generally no repeat treatment in the first year after your treatment. If it turns out that the strength after a proven stable eye test still does not have the desired result, we can assess whether you may be eligible for a repeat treatment. The FYEO ophthalmologist will assess whether a better result can be achieved through a repeat treatment and whether this is medically responsible.

We offer you the following warranty for ExtraLens treatments:

  • If after the ExtraLens treatment there is a residual error of more than a spherical equivalent of +1.00 dioptres or -0.75 dioptres, your remaining refractive error will be corrected free of charge with the laser;
  • If, after your ExtraLens treatment, a situation unexpectedly arises in which it appears that another (type of) lens could have solved your eye problems better (calculation or estimation error). Then you are entitled to a lens exchange. It is possible that the new lens has different specifications than originally discussed with you.

There are situations where a retreatment is not performed and you therefore cannot derive any right from the lifetime warranty. These are situations when:

  • The deterioration in visual acuity is caused by your own actions (for example, by failure to comply with the aftercare instructions);
  • There is reduced vision (temporary or permanent) due to an accident or trauma to the eye;
  • The residual deviation is so small that improvement in vision is expected;
  • The residual deviation cannot be corrected with laser eye surgery (for example because the cornea is too thin or because you suffer from dry eyes);
  • The development of a residual abnormality and/or deterioration of vision is caused by other conditions/eye diseases such as vitreoretinal abnormalities, diabetes, macular degeneration, corneal degeneration or glaucoma;
  • Treatment (or retreatment) has taken place in a clinic other than FYEO;
  • After initial treatment at FYEO, you have had eye surgery for other eye problems (such as retina, cornea, cataract or vitreous surgery);
  • With an ExtraLens treatment it appears that you get a faster decrease of endothelial cells than desired. We will remove the lens for free, but can not offer an alternative;
  • With ExtraLens treatment, the reduced vision only for close up (think of reading, screen distance, but also the dashboard of the car, sheet music and similar distances) causes problems as a result of presbyopia (age-related farsightedness). Changes in the eye lens due to age occur that make it difficult to accommodate or focus;
  • When you have decided together with the ophthalmologist to keep a difference in outcome as a target. Think of monovision to not become completely dependent on reading glasses.

Lifetime Warranty ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens Treatments

This lifetime warranty applies to the ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens treatments. In order to be eligible for this warranty, it is necessary that you attend all follow-up checks at FYEO during the first year after the ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens treatments. A repeat treatment after a ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens treatment can only be performed after a proven stable eye test, which is often achieved after one year. As a result, there is generally no repeat treatment in the first year after your treatment. If it turns out that the prescription after a proven stable eye test still does not have the desired result, we can assess whether you may be eligible for a repeat treatment. The FYEO ophthalmologist will assess whether a better result can be achieved through a repeat treatment and whether this is medically responsible.

We offer you the following warranty for the ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens treatments:

  • If cataracts develop after the procedure, you will receive a free YAG-C treatment;
  • If after the ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens treatments there is a residual error of more than a spherical equivalent of +1.00 dioptres or -0.75 dioptres, your remaining refractive error will be corrected free of charge with the laser;
  • If, after your ReplaceLens and Readon ReplaceLens treatments, a situation unexpectedly arises in which it appears that another (type of) lens could have solved your eye problems better (calculation or estimation error). Then you are entitled to a lens exchange. It is possible that the new lens has different specifications than originally discussed with you.

There are situations where a retreatment is not performed and you therefore cannot derive any right from the lifetime warranty. These are situations when:

  • The deterioration in visual acuity is caused by your own actions (for example, by failure to comply with the aftercare instructions);
  • There is reduced vision (temporary or permanent) due to an accident or trauma to the eye;
  • The residual deviation is so small that improvement in vision is expected;
  • The residual deviation cannot be corrected with laser eye surgery (for example because the cornea is too thin or because you suffer from dry eyes);
  • The development of a residual abnormality and/or deterioration of vision is caused by other conditions/eye diseases such as vitreoretinal abnormalities, diabetes, macular degeneration, corneal degeneration or glaucoma;
  • Treatment (or retreatment) has taken place in a clinic other than FYEO;
  • After initial treatment at FYEO, you have had eye surgery for other eye problems (such as retina, cornea, cataract or vitreous surgery);
  • If you have opted for Readon ReplaceLens treatment and the treatment in one eye proves to be insufficient, we will carefully examine whether the remaining result is caused by the eye that has already been treated;
  • When you have decided together with the ophthalmologist to keep a difference in outcome as a target. Think of monovision to not become completely dependent on reading glasses.
