Laser eye surgery recovery
We want you to recover well after your laser eye treatment. To do this, you need to do a number of things and leave a number of things undone. What exactly, you can read here and in the brochure that you receive before your treatment. It is important that you get enough rest, attend all check-ups and use your eye medication.
What do I feel and see?
For the first few days after your laser eye surgery, your eyes are sensitive. Your vision is also less. There are differences between laser eye treatments. For example, with a TransPRK or Lasek treatment, you see less after the surgery than after a ReLEx SMILE or IntraLasik treatment.
| Eye laser treatment | Number of days out of action | Speed of vision recovery |
|---|---|---|
| ReLEx SMILE | 1 to 2 days | Sharp vision after a few days |
| IntraLasik | 1 to 2 days | Sharp vision after a few days |
| TransPRK | 7 to 10 days | It takes several weeks for vision to become fully sharp |
| Lasek | 7 to 10 days | It takes several weeks for vision to become fully sharp |
What am I allowed/not allowed to do?
Before your laser eye treatment, you will receive a brochure. It will tell you what you may and may not do after the surgery. Rules of conduct prevent complications and promote your recovery. You can also read the advice from the brochure below:
Work, activities and sports
- If possible, you may resume your daily activities the day after treatment. You can usually return to work after 7 to 10 days. In some cases, working behind a screen may still be a bit difficult.
- Be careful with contact, ball or intensive sports. Wait until 2 weeks after your treatment. Other sports can be resumed after a week.
Avoid dusty areas
Avoid dust in your eyes for the first 2 weeks. If this is not possible, wear protective goggles.
No travel abroad
The advice is not to travel to countries that cannot provide the same level of care for the first few weeks. When traveling by plane, the eye becomes drier. Therefore, moisten the eye extra during and after the trip.
Sunglasses
Wear sunglasses in sunny and light weather for the first 6 months after your treatment.

Medication schedule
Follow your medication schedule
To further reduce the risk of infection, you will be given antibiotic drops and anti-inflammatories as a precaution. You will also receive tear replacement drops to increase comfort. Are you out of eye drops? Simply request a repeat prescription here .
Under control
After your laser eye treatment, we will keep a close eye on the recovery of your cornea. We will do this during a number of check-ups. We will plan these together with you at one of our clinics.
Are there any risks associated with laser eye surgery?
No surgery is without risk. Not even laser eye surgery. Fortunately, the chance of something happening is very small.
