Extra Lenses

How much does lens implantation cost?
arrow_downward

That depends entirely on the treatment your eyes are suitable for.

Price indication

We can give you a price indication. The costs for lens implantation vary from 2695 euros per eye for the ExtraLens treatment to 2995 euros per eye for the ReplaceLens treatment.
These are the basic costs. Any additional charges for a cylinder deviation, Select, laser-guided or in the case of the ExtraLens treatment a reading glasses correction, are not included. The treatment price includes the preliminary examination, consultation and check-ups. You can find a complete overview on the costs page.

Free preliminary examination
Only the preliminary examination, completely free and without obligation, can show which treatment is possible. You then look together with the doctor which treatment suits you best.

All-inclusive
Good to know that our prices are always all-inclusive. So no nasty surprises afterwards. You know exactly where you stand.

Can I go blind after lens implantation?
arrow_downward

The chance of going blind after treatment is very small. At FYEO we have never had to deal with this.
As with any medical procedure, there are risks associated with treatment. A complication, often caused by not following medical advice and careless handling of the lifestyle and medication, could theoretically lead to blindness. The chance of this is very minimal if you follow all the lifestyle rules. Complications are also often easy to treat.

Is lens implantation possible with a lazy eye?
arrow_downward

Yes, possibly, but lens implantation is not always advised. With a lazy eye, there is blurred vision in one of the eyes.

Depending on the results of the preliminary examination, a Single Vision or Multiple Vision ReplaceLens can be placed in the lazy eye to improve vision. Lens implantation will not help you get rid of your lazy eye.

Is lens implantation possible with glaucoma?
arrow_downward

In principle, lens implantation is not a problem in case of increased eye pressure.

Although proper research should be done to determine what type of glaucoma you have, whether glaucoma is under control and any damage caused to the visual field. Only then can the ophthalmologist give you precise and appropriate advice.

How does lens implantation work?
arrow_downward

First, your eyes are numbed with eye drops, then the laser makes a tiny opening in the side of the cornea. Then the implant lens is positioned in the right place through the opening.

ExtraLenses are placed in front of the natural lens. During the ReplaceLens treatment, the natural lens is first fragmented or pulverized. This can be done laser-guided or manually by the ophthalmologist, after which the ReplaceLens replaces the removed natural lens.

After the placement of the implant lenses, the eye does not need to be stitched. The incision heals by itself.

When lens implantation?
arrow_downward

Lens implantation solves many eye conditions. Even more than laser eye surgery. Implant lenses are ideal for reading problems, poor vision, high prescription deviations and eye conditions such as cataracts.

Custom implant lenses
Only age can sometimes give a delay. But that is a matter of time. Even now, there are always custom artificial lenses, think of the Readon ReplaceLens treatment. The preliminary examination will show which lens suits you exactly. A sum of your eye situation and who you are. So you will always receive a treatment advice completely customized. There are a number of conditions that you can already check yourself.

  • Your age is over 18 years
  • Your vision has been stable for at least 6 months
  • You are in good general health
  • You are not pregnant or have not recently given birth and are not breastfeeding for at least 6 months

Read more about when you are suitable for lens implants here

Is lens implantation possible with astigmatism?
arrow_downward

Yes, that is not a problem, depending on the size of the cylinder and your prescription.

That is why the preliminary examination is so important, because then we know exactly which treatment suits your eyes. At FYEO we have all possible techniques in-house to help you get rid of your glasses. Based on your eyes and your lifestyle, you will always receive a treatment advice completely tailored to your needs.

Is lens implantation possible when you are pregnant?
arrow_downward

Unfortunately, if you are pregnant, you cannot undergo lens implantation. During pregnancy and while breastfeeding, hormonal activity increases. This can affect your vision. Therefore, we only perform implantation 6 months after you have given birth or stopped breastfeeding.

Can you see an implant lens after treatment?
arrow_downward

No, implant lenses are not visible after treatment.

The ExtraLens is placed in the posterior chamber of the eye. Behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. The ReplaceLens replaces your current lens. You can’t see this lens now either.

Can my body reject an artificial lens?
arrow_downward

No, that is not possible. This is due to two reasons:

Biocompatible material
This means that the material is specially designed not to trigger an immune response from the body. It feels like a natural part to the body.

Avascular environment: no blood supply at the site of the lens
The artificial lens is placed in the posterior chamber of the eye, an area without a direct blood supply. Because our immune system works via cells in the blood, these cannot reach the lens. As a result, the body cannot generate an immune response.

In short: the body does not see the artificial lens as foreign. Furthermore, the eye itself suppresses all reactions of the immune system, so that the artificial lens is not seen as a threat. As a result, there is no chance of rejection, as can happen with an organ transplant.

But what material is the artificial lens made of?

  • The ReplaceLens: is made of a high-quality Acrylic material.
  • The ExtraLens: is made of a high-quality Collagen polymer.

General

What is cataract?
arrow_downward

Cataracts are the clouding of your natural eye lens due to aging. The clouding occurs when proteins in your natural eye lens clump together. This causes images to be projected less sharply onto the retina. The speed at which cataracts develop is different for everyone.

Some symptoms of cataract formation are:

  • Blurred vision
  • Less perception of colours – greyer image
  • Double vision or shadow images in 1 eye
  • Light glare or glare from light
  • Changing prescription
  • More light needed when reading
Can I wear make-up after a treatment?
arrow_downward

After eye treatment, you may not wear any facial cream or make-up around your eyes for 2 weeks. With IntraLasik treatment, this may not be until after 4 weeks. The make-up particles can end up in your eyes, which can cause inflammation. Do not rub your eyes hard for the first 4 weeks. Also be careful when removing stubborn eye make-up.

Before the treatment you must stop wearing make-up for 3 days. Of course you do not wear make-up on the day of your treatment. For the preliminary examination you can wear make-up.

What if the treatment fails?
arrow_downward

Nature cannot be captured in calculation models. If wound healing is somewhat faster, slower or different, this can have an effect on the final result. This can ensure that a small residual strength remains after treatment.

Lifetime Warranty – Additional Treatment
If this is experienced as a nuisance in daily life, you are eligible for additional treatment. The additional examinations, retreatment and necessary medication costs are included in your lifelong guarantee. With the exception of any medication costs if a repeat prescription appears to be necessary.

Why do I pay handling fees?
arrow_downward

Handling costs are fixed costs that every pharmacy in the Netherlands charges per type of medicine (cost may vary). FYEO does not determine these costs, these are agreements between pharmacy and health insurer. FYEO works together with pharmacy Amstelkwartier. You may come across this name on the invoice from the health insurer.

When is eye surgery not possible?
arrow_downward

In certain cases we definitely cannot perform surgery. We call these absolute contraindications. In about 1 in 20 clients it is medically irresponsible to treat.

Examples of absolute contraindications

  • BMI over 35 – calculate your BMI here
  • Age under 18 years
  • Advanced glaucoma – increased eye pressure
  • Pregnancy

Specifically for laser eye surgery

  • Keratoconus – abnormal shape of the cornea
  • Cataracts – a ReplaceLens implant may be an ideal solution

Relative contraindications

Sometimes there is more treatment space. Relative contraindications are conditions where we look at the possibilities per person. Examples are:

  • Diabetes
  • Insufficient corneal quality
  • Inadequate eye health

Consensus Refractive Surgery

All contraindications are described in the Refractive Surgery Consensus. This was drawn up as a consensus among Dutch ophthalmologists by the members of the Dutch Society for Refractive Surgery – NGRC. In addition to the opinion of these ophthalmologists, international standards and opinions were also considered. It forms an important guideline for performing high-quality, safe refractive surgery.

What warranty do I have?
arrow_downward

We offer a lifetime warranty. You are assured of complete aftercare as standard, including all checks. View the conditions here .

If necessary, you can undergo additional treatment free of charge. Provided that this is medically responsible and will contribute to the expected correction. It must also be the same type of treatment. During the first year after the treatment, you may also use artificial tears free of charge.

Can I drive myself after a preliminary examination or treatment?
arrow_downward

Preliminary examination and subsequent consultation with the ophthalmologist
No, you cannot drive yourself. Pupil dilating drops cause your vision to be temporarily reduced and you are more sensitive to light. Therefore, always take a driver with you.

Day of treatment
After the treatment you are not allowed to drive yourself. If you have taken sedatives, you are also not allowed to drive yourself to the clinic. Your reaction time is then reduced for 24 to 72 hours. Always follow the advice of your pharmacist with medication.

After the treatment
In these first days your reaction time is temporarily reduced, the eye can water and your vision is not yet sharp. In general this lasts 2 to 5 days, depending on the type of treatment. During the first follow-up check it is assessed whether your vision is good enough to drive a car. So make sure you have a driver until then.

Can I fly the day after treatment?
arrow_downward

No, wait for the follow-up check first. During the follow-up check, you will discuss with the optometrist when flying is safe. Your travel destination is also decisive. Make sure you have access to an ophthalmologist and the right medication if you get an eye infection.

When should I stop wearing contact lenses before treatment?
arrow_downward

This varies by type of contact lens, but also by type of treatment. Before your treatment, we will tell you how long you should leave your lenses out.

If you do not have glasses available to bridge this period, you can get a Charlie Temple glasses voucher from us with a value of 50 euros.

How long after treatment can I swim or use a tanning bed again?
arrow_downward

The golden rule is no water in your eyes for up to 2 weeks after your eye treatment. So no swimming. No sauna. Close your eyes in the shower and only wash your hair after 3 days. The reason is to prevent irritation and reduce the chance of infections. That can cause a significant delay in your recovery. If you decide to go swimming after 2 weeks, wear swimming goggles.

Sunbed
Wear sunglasses in bright sunlight for the first six months after laser treatment. It is also wise not to go under the sunbed for the first 6 months to protect your eyes.

What if I blink during a treatment?
arrow_downward

Blinking is not possible. During the treatment you will be given an eyelid spreader. Not a comfortable feeling, but necessary to prevent blinking. In addition, the equipment has eye-tracking, so that your eyes are continuously followed when changing gaze direction.

If there is a very strong squeezing force of the eye, another laser treatment may be recommended.

How long should I not wear lenses before the preliminary examination?
arrow_downward

The following rules apply prior to the preliminary investigation:

  • Soft contact lenses 1 week out
  • Hard contact lenses for at least 4 weeks
  • Night lenses for at least 8 weeks

Glasses voucher
To bridge these weeks, you can temporarily wear soft lenses if you have hard contact lenses or night lenses. You may wear your glasses during the last strictly contact-free week. Do you no longer have glasses? Then you can get a glasses voucher for Charlie Temple from us with a value of 50 euros.

Why leave out contact lenses?
Contact lenses can leave an imprint on the cornea. During the preliminary examination, the structure of the eye is measured, the health of the eye is examined and your visual requirements are mapped out. It is very important to be able to measure the natural shape of your cornea exactly during the preliminary examination. Only in this way is it possible to determine the correct calculations for the treatment.

Should my other eye also be treated?
arrow_downward

Depending on whether you can get used to the new situation, the natural aging process of the eye lens and your requirements regarding the quality of vision in daily life, treatment of the other eye will be desirable in the short term or only after many years.

How does laser eye surgery work?
arrow_downward

With laser eye surgery, a laser corrects your refractive error. The higher your prescription, the more the shape of your cornea needs to be adjusted. With laser eye surgery, nearsightedness , farsightedness and a cylinder deviation can be corrected.

Laser eye surgery always takes place in two steps, regardless of the technique chosen:

  1. Reaching the correct layer in the cornea.
  2. Removal of tissue to correct strength.

The laser evaporates tiny layers of tissue or loosens a layer, which makes the cornea flatter or more curved. This gives your cornea the right shape and the light falls perfectly on your retina again, resulting in sharp vision. Every eye laser treatment focuses exclusively on the front of the cornea. The lower 2/3 of the cornea remains completely intact and is not touched by the laser.

When can I exercise again after treatment?
arrow_downward

Returning to sports depends on the treatment. You can read this below. Avoid water in the eyes for the first 2 weeks and wait a while before swimming. This applies to every treatment.

ReLEx SMILE, TransPRK and Lasek
Be careful with contact, ball or intensive sports. Wait until 2 weeks after your treatment. Other sports can be resumed after a week.

IntraLasik
Be careful with contact and ball sports. The advice is no physical contact and ball sports for 4 weeks.

Lens implantation
Be careful with contact and ball sports. Definitely wait until 4 weeks after your treatment.

Is cataract treatment possible after laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

Yes, that is possible. Cataracts are in the lens of the eye and not in the cornea.

With laser eye surgery you change the curvature of the cornea. It is important that the treating physician is aware of your laser eye treatment.

Laser Eye Surgery

Is laser eye surgery possible with glaucoma?
arrow_downward

in principle, surgery can be carried out just fine if there is increased eye pressure.

Although proper research should be done into what type of glaucoma you have, whether glaucoma is under control and any damage caused to the visual field. Only then can the ophthalmologist give you an exact and appropriate treatment advice tailored to your needs.

When to get laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

Laser eye surgery accurately corrects your minus or plus strength. So if you are nearsighted or farsighted, possibly with astigmatism, laser eye surgery may be a suitable treatment.
Which technique is right for you depends on your age, eye health and lifestyle. After the preliminary examination and the consultation with the ophthalmologist, you will receive a treatment advice completely tailored to your needs.

The minimum requirements for laser eye surgery are:

  • Between 18 and 50 years old
  • Magnitude deviation between -12 and +4.5
  • BMI is less than 35
  • You are not pregnant and you have not been breastfeeding for at least 6 months
Is laser eye surgery possible for a lazy eye?
arrow_downward

Whether or not a lazy eye, it is always necessary to first do a preliminary examination of what is possible. A lazy eye only concerns 1 eye. The preliminary examination indicates whether the non-lazy eye can be treated.

In addition, it is also assessed whether the lazy eye can be treated. That depends on the vision you have with the lazy eye and how much this eye contributes to your total vision. It is good to know in any case that laser eye surgery will not help you with your lazy eye.

What is customised?
arrow_downward

In order to achieve optimal vision quality, we need to take into account the specific shape of your cornea. That is why we advise our eye laser treatments Lasek, TransPRK and IntraLasik to always have them customised (also known as wavefront).

If we were not to do this, it would be at the expense of your vision quality. You will notice this, for example, in (more) trouble with halos, color shifting, glare and starbursting. We want to prevent this of course and we always strive for the best quality for your eyes.

What if I rub my eyes after laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

You may not rub your eyes for two weeks after laser eye surgery. For hygiene, healing, wrinkling and the bandage lens.

Lasek & TransPRK
With the Lasek and TransPRK treatment you get a bandage lens in your eyes. By accidentally rubbing your eyes you could move it. This lens is removed after 5 days.

IntraLasik Femtosecond & ReLEx SMILE
With the IntraLasik Femtosecond and ReLEx SMILE treatment, there is a small chance of wrinkling when you rub your eyes, especially in the first few days. If this unexpectedly happens to you, you can recognize it by burning, red eyes and blurred vision. Fortunately, it can be fixed.

Why am I not eligible for laser eye surgery if I have a higher prescription?
arrow_downward

It is possible that you expected in advance to be eligible for laser eye surgery with your prescription. Perhaps you have even had a preliminary examination at another eye clinic which showed this. However, it may be that the advice after a preliminary examination at FYEO is to opt for an ExtraLens treatment.

We always want the best result for you. Not only now, but also for the future. With laser eye surgery, we change the shape of the cornea. When a higher strength laser is required, the shape of the cornea is also adjusted more. For now, this might be safe and responsible, but if the cornea needs to be adjusted significantly, it could be that you are not or less suitable for another treatment in the future, such as a lens replacement.

With an ExtraLens treatment we do not change anything in your cornea, so this is still possible.

What is the difference between Lasek and Lasik laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

Both Lasek and IntraLasik are laser eye treatments, but the difference is the technique used. Lasik and IntraLasik each have their own method to perform the first step of laser eye surgery: reaching the right layer in the cornea. And each treatment has its own comfort level and recovery period after the treatment. During the preliminary examination, we look at which treatment you are eligible for and which one suits your eyes and lifestyle best. So you always get a treatment advice completely tailored to your needs.

Lasek
Lasek is a surface treatment where the top layer of your cornea is loosened with alcohol and removed. After removing this layer, the refractive error can be lasered into the underlying part of the cornea.

IntraLasik-Femtosecond
IntraLasik-Femtosecond is a deep treatment known as the flap treatment. A technique that spares the top layer of the cornea, the epithelium. This outer layer of the cornea is not removed, but flapped aside. The ophthalmologist can then fold this flap so that the next laser can correct the vision.

The benefits of Lasek:

  • Suitable for contact sports and extreme occupations
  • Always possible when the cornea is suitable for laser eye surgery
  • Suitable for minor corneal damage
  • Most affordable laser eye treatment

The benefits of IntraLasik:

  • Painless treatment and hardly any after-pain
  • Very fast recovery
  • See well almost immediately
How much does laser eye surgery cost?
arrow_downward

That depends entirely on the treatment your eyes are suitable for.

Price indication

The costs for laser eye surgery vary from 1050 euros per eye for the cheapest manual Lasek treatment to 1995 euros per eye for the ReLEx SMILE treatment. ExtraLenses may be a better fit for you, which is available from 2695 euros per eye. These are the basic costs for ExtraLenses. Any additional charges for a cylinder deviation or high prescriptions are not included. The treatment price includes the preliminary examination, consultation and check-ups.

Can anything happen to the lenticule during removal?
arrow_downward

Your minimum strength must be -2 to safely perform the ReLEx SMILE treatment. This strength ensures that the lenticule has sufficient thickness to be removed.

Do I need reading glasses after laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

That depends on your age. From about 45 years old, you will need reading glasses, just like everyone else. That has everything to do with the aging of your natural eye lens, which becomes increasingly stiff. You are then presbyopic.

If that is soon, then we can postpone reading glasses with Monovision. This is a temporary solution. To permanently get rid of reading glasses, ReplaceLenses will be needed in the future.

What are the risks of laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

No surgery is without risk. Not even laser eye surgery. The chance is incredibly small, but complications can occur. That is why we offer a lifetime warranty on all our treatments. A number of risks listed.

Dry eyes
The eye may feel drier after the treatment. This varies per treatment. Artificial tears are temporarily prescribed to soothe.

Haze – at TransPRk and Lasek
In a few cases, during wound healing, a clouding of the cornea, haze, may occur. This can cause a temporary reduction in contrast and temporary reduction in vision. After 3 to 12 months, the clarity is in principle restored. Additional use of medication can accelerate this.

Starbursting
Starbursting, star formation around a light source, is partly caused by a dilated pupil. If the ophthalmologist finds that your pupils are too large, laser eye surgery may be advised against.

Tightly squinting eyelids
By squeezing the eyelids hard it is possible that the treatment cannot be carried out. In that case a switch can be made to a surface treatment.

Photosensitivity
After the treatment you may need sunglasses sooner. Especially in the first few days your eyes are very sensitive to light. This hypersensitivity decreases, but does not disappear completely for everyone.

View all possible risks and complications here

At what strength is laser eye surgery possible?
arrow_downward

Theoretically, strengths between -12 and +4.5 can be treated. These are the maximum strength deviations that may be treated. Taking into account the best result and safe and responsible laser eye surgery, the maximum strength that is treated is lower.

Laser eye surgery as a treatment is not always an option. Alternative treatments can be ExtraLenzen, the Readon treatment or ReplaceLenzen. Your eyes can also be lasered with a minimum minus deviation of -0.75 and with a minimum plus deviation of +0.50.

What are the disadvantages of laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward
  • Only 1 strength can be corrected. Far or near.
  • Not always possible with high prescription or reading glasses.
  • Age is a determining factor. Laser eye surgery can generally be performed up to the age of 45.

Exceptions:

  • Laser eye retreatment has no age limit.

Can you go blind from laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

The chance of going blind after treatment is very small. At FYEO we have never had to deal with this.
As with any medical procedure, there are risks associated with treatment. A complication, often caused by not following medical advice and careless handling of the lifestyle and medication, could theoretically lead to blindness. The chance of this is very minimal if you follow all the lifestyle rules. Complications are also often easy to treat.

What are the disadvantages of IntraLasik?
arrow_downward
  • The flap always remains a weak spot
  • Not possible with dry eyes
When is there a medical indication for laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

A medical indication applies in the case of contact lens intolerance in combination with extreme plus or minus strength deviations and an exceptional astigmatism .

Basic insurance reimbursement

In some situations, reimbursement from basic insurance is possible. Only the ophthalmologist can determine on the basis of the preliminary examination whether you are eligible for this. Ultimately, your health insurer will make a decision on this.

Does laser eye surgery provide permanent results?
arrow_downward

This is a question that is often asked. The result is in principle permanent: the effect cannot be undone. With laser eye treatment, the shape of your cornea is adjusted. This process is irreversible.

Research shows that the cornea recovers well and stably after laser eye surgery. This does not mean that your eyes and your prescription cannot change over the years. As you get older, you may develop cataracts or need reading glasses.

Reading glasses due to aging
Many people wonder whether they need reading glasses after laser eye surgery. The fact that you need reading glasses as you get older has nothing to do with your cornea, but with your eye lens. As you get older, your eye lens can no longer focus for close-up. You then suffer from presbyopia . This is therefore separate from the laser eye surgery. A solution for this is a lens implant . In most cases, we therefore recommend this if you are at an age where it is likely that you will soon have reading problems.

Is laser eye surgery possible for astigmatism?
arrow_downward

Yes, that is not a problem, depending on the diopters of astigmatism and your prescription. But the thickness of the cornea and the size of your pupil are also decisive. They determine which prescription can be corrected. That is why the preliminary examination is so important, because then we know exactly what is possible with your eyes.

If the preliminary examination shows that laser eye surgery is not possible with your prescription, implant lenses may be possible. Alternative solutions are ExtraLenses, ReplaceLenses or a Readon ReplaceLens treatment for reading problems. At FYEO we have all possible techniques in-house to help you get rid of your glasses. Based on your eyes and your lifestyle, you will always receive a treatment advice completely tailored to your needs.

What if my eyes are not suitable for laser eye surgery?
arrow_downward

A perfect alternative to laser eye surgery are ExtraLenses. During the ExtraLens implantation, the ophthalmologist places an advanced artificial lens in front of your natural eye lens.

Contact lens in your eye

The ExtraLens is actually a kind of contact lens in your eye instead of on your eye. Especially suitable for higher minus and plus strengths, extreme deviations, dry eyes or thin corneas. The ultra-thin lens is not visible to others. Once implanted, the lens can remain in place for life. But it can also be removed or replaced without any problems, should you ever want to get rid of your reading glasses. In contrast to laser eye surgery, nothing changes in the anatomy of your eyes.

ReplaceLenses

Another possible treatment could be ReplaceLens. If you are over 45, the ReplaceLens treatment can address farsightedness.

Can the flap flip over after IntraLasik treatment?
arrow_downward

After the treatment it is important to observe all the prescribed rules of life. Rules of life prevent complications and promote your recovery. These rules are described in detail in the treatment brochure that you receive before the treatment.

If you play contact sports or have a physical job or hobbies, it is important to know that the IntraLasik-Femtosecond eye laser treatment is not recommended. Precisely to prevent complications such as the flap turning over.

What are the disadvantages of ReLEx SMILE?
arrow_downward
  • Not with plus strengths
  • Not at higher cylinder strengths
How does laser eye surgery work?

The lower 2/3 of the cornea remains completely intact and is not touched by the laser.

Is laser eye surgery painful?
arrow_downward

During the treatment you will not feel any pain, because your eyes will be numbed with eye drops. The experience of the recovery period can vary from person to person. Pain is different for everyone and difficult to measure.
Each method has a different level of comfort in the recovery period. With surface treatments such as TransPRK and Lasek, the outer layer of the cornea is removed. The first 3 to 5 days your eyes are sensitive or even painful because this has to recover. Many people experience this as unpleasant. Deep treatments such as ReLEx SMILE and IntraLasik are experienced as more comfortable.

Is laser eye surgery possible when you are pregnant?
arrow_downward

Unfortunately, you cannot undergo laser eye surgery if you are pregnant.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, hormonal activity increases. This can affect your vision. Therefore, we only perform laser treatment 6 months after you have given birth or stopped breastfeeding.

Is laser eye surgery possible for farsightedness?
arrow_downward

Yes, laser eye surgery with a plus prescription is certainly possible, but the thickness of the cornea and the size of the pupil are also decisive. An alternative can be an ExtraLens. The preliminary examination can indicate exactly whether laser eye surgery is possible for you. During the preliminary examination and the consultation, the ophthalmologist looks at your specific eye situation and lifestyle and gives you a customized treatment advice based on that.

Laser Eye Surgery

Laser eye surgery is strongly age-related. Up to about 45 years, laser eye surgery is often the best option. After 45 years, the Readon ReplaceLens or ReplaceLens treatment is more suitable.

What should I take into account when undergoing eye treatment if my eyes have previously been lasered?
arrow_downward

If you have undergone laser eye surgery in the past, the shape of your cornea will have changed due to the treatment. In order to get a complete picture of the properties of your eyes, we need information about your laser eye surgery. This includes the original shape of your cornea, the corrected strength and the type of treatment that was performed. Are you going for a preliminary examination? Then bring this information with you, so that the ophthalmologist can give you a customized treatment advice that perfectly suits your situation.

What are the disadvantages of Lasek?
arrow_downward
  • Longer recovery
  • Sensitive during recovery
  • Complete wound healing takes 3 months with low starting level of vision
What are the disadvantages of TransPRK?
arrow_downward
  • Sensitive eyes the first few days after treatment
  • Recovery takes longer
  • 3 to 4 days for the top layer of the cornea to heal
  • Complete wound healing takes 3 months with low starting level of vision
Is laser eye surgery possible for myopia?
arrow_downward

Yes, laser eye surgery with a minus strength is certainly possible, although it depends on the thickness of the cornea and the size of the pupil.

Is lens implantation possible with a lazy eye?
arrow_downward

Yes, possibly, but lens implantation is not always advised. With a lazy eye, there is blurred vision in one of the eyes.

Depending on the results of the preliminary examination, a Single Vision or Multiple Vision ReplaceLens can be placed in the lazy eye to improve vision. Lens implantation will not help you get rid of your lazy eye.

Is lens implantation possible with glaucoma?

In principle, lens implantation is not a problem in case of increased eye pressure.

Although proper research should be done to determine what type of glaucoma you have, whether glaucoma is under control and any damage caused to the visual field. Only then can the ophthalmologist give you precise and appropriate advice.

Can reading strength decrease after a lens replacement?
arrow_downward

No, the reading return after a lens replacement. The reason you get a reading problem is because your natural eye lens ages and can no longer accommodate properly. The replacement lens does not have to accommodate, because the different strengths in the ReplaceLens Multiple Vision do the work.

What is accommodation?
How well you see up close has everything to do with your eye lens. Your eye lens ensures that you can zoom in and out. The eye lens does this by either becoming very convex or flatter. If you want to see something up close, the accommodation muscle pulls the eye lens into a convex shape. This allows you to see sharply at close range. If the muscle relaxes, your eye lens remains flat and you can focus well in the distance. This focusing from far away to close up is called accommodation.
If this process works perfectly, you will have no complaints when looking up close. Everything you want to see falls exactly on the retina.

Presbyopia (age-related farsightedness)
As the lens becomes stiffer, it becomes more difficult to make the lens more convex, it takes longer to go from flat to convex and back again. In addition, the lens can become less convex.
This makes it increasingly difficult to see at shorter distances and it can take longer for the image to become clear. This can also be very tiring for your eyes. Where you used to be able to easily read a book or the menu in a restaurant, you now have to hold it further and further away from you. To the point where your arms also become too short and it is time for reading glasses or reading glasses correction.

How does lens implantation work?

First, your eyes are numbed with eye drops, then the laser makes a tiny opening in the side of the cornea. Then the implant lens is positioned in the right place through the opening.

ExtraLenses are placed in front of the natural lens. During the ReplaceLens treatment, the natural lens is first fragmented or pulverized. This can be done laser-guided or manually by the ophthalmologist, after which the ReplaceLens replaces the removed natural lens.

After the placement of the implant lenses, the eye does not need to be stitched. The incision heals by itself.

Getting used to Readon treatment
arrow_downward

With a Readon ReplaceLens treatment, one eye is treated first, after which the second eye is next. The treatment of one eye requires a major adjustment of your brain, as if it has to be retrained. The adjustment process takes an average of 6 to 9 months. The most important advice is therefore: give yourself time to get used to this.

For approximately 25% of people it is difficult to fully get used to the Readon ReplaceLens. In these cases, it can be decided to treat the second eye more quickly – usually within a year. For the vast majority of people, the treatment of the second eye only takes place after a few years.
