Age-related farsightedness (presbyopia)
Are you having trouble reading the small print on your phone? Or are you suddenly holding a restaurant menu far away from you to see it? Unfortunately, we cannot avoid age-related farsightedness (also called presbyopia). The symptoms often start between the ages of 40 and 45. Close-up vision becomes increasingly less sharp.
What causes presbyopia
Our eye is a complex organ and has a kind of autofocus system. This allows you to see sharply at close range when the lens of the eye becomes more convex. And you can see sharply far away when the lens of the eye becomes flatter. This convexity and flattening of the lens of the eye is called accommodation.
Accommodation capacity
As you get older, your ability to accommodate decreases. Presbyopia occurs in most people from the age of forty. No one can avoid it. Your eye lens loses its flexibility and becomes stiffer; accommodation becomes less flexible. The muscles are no longer able to pull your eye lens more convex. This makes it more difficult for you to see sharply up close and to read, for example.

Symptoms of presbyopia
Treatments for presbyopia
Presbyopia can be corrected with a treatment in which your natural eye lens is replaced by an artificial lens. This is the ReplaceLens treatment .
However, every treatment starts with a preliminary examination and consultation with an ophthalmologist. This examination is essential to map out your eye situation exactly, so you will always receive a treatment advice completely tailored to your needs. The ophthalmologist you see during the consultation is also the ophthalmologist who will ultimately treat you, should you opt for treatment. The preliminary examination is always free and without obligation.

Why not laser eye surgery?
Laser eye surgery is always a temporary solution for reading problems from the age of 40. The correction is not permanent, because your eye lens continues to age. The Readon ReplaceLens treatment also offers a temporary solution, because only one eye is treated. Only ReplaceLens on both eyes provides a lifelong solution for presbyopia. This means you can see clearly again.
Request a preliminary examination
Your preliminary examination is always free and without obligation and includes eye tests and a consultation with the eye specialist.
