Readon ReplaceLenses
Are you curious to know if it is interesting for you to have your eyes treated? On this page we have put together all the information about the Readon ReplaceLens treatment.
Why do I have reading difficulties?
Your eye lens constantly changes shape in order to see sharply. As soon as you look far away, it becomes flatter and when you look closer, more convex. This is what we call accommodation.
Accommodation meaning
With age, this accommodation ability decreases. The natural lens of the eye changes and becomes more rigid, making bulging increasingly difficult. To see sharply at short distances, you need reading glasses.
Treatment in two steps
The Readon ReplaceLens treatment, being able to continue reading at short distances, is appropriate when you have good distance vision but have beginning reading problems. For example, you wear reading glasses and need more light while reading.
A ReplaceLens is placed in one eye to restore good near vision. With both eyes together after the Readon ReplaceLens treatment, you can see sharply both near and far.
In the future, the other eye will have its turn. How soon depends on habituation, visual tasks and aging of the natural eye lens of the untreated eye.

Frequently asked questions about Readon ReplaceLenses
Should my other eye also be treated? arrow_downward
Depending on whether you can get used to the new situation, the natural aging process of the eye lens and your requirements regarding the quality of vision in daily life, treatment of the other eye will be desirable in the short term or only after many years.
Is ReplaceLens treatment painful? arrow_downward
During the treatment you will not experience any pain, because your eyes will be numbed with eye drops. A ReplaceLens treatment is painless.
Can reading strength decrease after a lens replacement? arrow_downward
No, the reading return after a lens replacement. The reason you get a reading problem is because your natural eye lens ages and can no longer accommodate properly. The replacement lens does not have to accommodate, because the different strengths in the ReplaceLens Multiple Vision do the work.
What is accommodation?
How well you see up close has everything to do with your eye lens. Your eye lens ensures that you can zoom in and out. The eye lens does this by either becoming very convex or flatter. If you want to see something up close, the accommodation muscle pulls the eye lens into a convex shape. This allows you to see sharply at close range. If the muscle relaxes, your eye lens remains flat and you can focus well in the distance. This focusing from far away to close up is called accommodation.
If this process works perfectly, you will have no complaints when looking up close. Everything you want to see falls exactly on the retina.
Presbyopia (age-related farsightedness)
As the lens becomes stiffer, it becomes more difficult to make the lens more convex, it takes longer to go from flat to convex and back again. In addition, the lens can become less convex.
This makes it increasingly difficult to see at shorter distances and it can take longer for the image to become clear. This can also be very tiring for your eyes. Where you used to be able to easily read a book or the menu in a restaurant, you now have to hold it further and further away from you. To the point where your arms also become too short and it is time for reading glasses or reading glasses correction.
Getting used to Readon treatment arrow_downward
With a Readon ReplaceLens treatment, one eye is treated first, after which the second eye is next. The treatment of one eye requires a major adjustment of your brain, as if it has to be retrained. The adjustment process takes an average of 6 to 9 months. The most important advice is therefore: give yourself time to get used to this.
For approximately 25% of people it is difficult to fully get used to the Readon ReplaceLens. In these cases, it can be decided to treat the second eye more quickly – usually within a year. For the vast majority of people, the treatment of the second eye only takes place after a few years.
Can I always have a ReplaceLens treatment after a Readon ReplaceLens treatment? arrow_downward
The Readon ReplaceLens treatment corrects the vision in 1 eye to address presbyopia. The untreated eye will eventually need to be treated as well, as the natural lens in this eye ages and becomes cloudy. At that point, if medically possible, you can have the ReplaceLens treatment.
The ReplaceLens is a one-time treatment, corrects your vision at all distances for life and can be performed from the age of 45.
