Farsightedness (hyperopia)

Can’t see up close clearly? Or does looking up close cost you a lot of energy? Your vision can also be less in the distance. Then you are farsighted. Also known as hyperopia. About 1 in 4 people suffer from farsightedness. This eye condition can be treated very well with laser eye surgery or implant lenses.

What is farsightedness

If you suffer from farsightedness, your cornea is too flat or your eyeball is too short. The point where the light comes together, where you see clearly, does not fall on the retina but behind it. This creates a blurred image. Your eye lens can partly compensate for this deviation by accommodating, which is the ability to zoom in and out. This compensation works mainly for images that come from far away. Close-up becomes more difficult when your eye lens ages and becomes stiffer. The strength of this refractive error is indicated with a plus sign (+).

At a later age
If you develop a plus strength only when reading at a later age, then you are presbyopic.
