Customised - for optimal vision quality
The best result always comes first. To ensure this with our eye laser treatments Lasek, TransPRK and IntraLasik, we advise to always perform them customised. What does this mean? We are happy to explain it to you.
Determine treatment method
The first step in any laser eye treatment is to determine the method. This is determined based on your personal situation. Among other things, the health of your eyes, the thickness of the cornea, the strength that is present, your lifestyle and where possible your personal preference for a certain treatment are taken into account.
In order to achieve optimal vision quality, we need to take into account the specific shape of your cornea. That is why we advise our eye laser treatments Lasek, TransPRK and IntraLasik to always have them customised (also known as wavefront).
If we were not to do this, it would be at the expense of your vision quality. You will notice this, for example, in (more) trouble with halos, color shifting, glare and starbursting. We want to prevent this of course and we always strive for the best quality for your eyes.
Vision quality
Your vision quality has nothing to do with the strength that is present, or any cylindrical deviation (low-order aberrations), but with the extent to which halos, color dispersion, glare and starbursts are experienced. These phenomena are also called the presence of high-order aberrations (HOAs). The image below clearly shows how annoying this can be.

Refractive errors (aberrations)
Light rays that enter the eye are refracted by the cornea and the lens. Sometimes the light does not enter evenly. The word aberration therefore means an abnormal course of light rays. These refractive errors, or aberrations, can be divided into low and high order errors.
Low-order aberrations
Low-order aberrations include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism (cylindrical deviations). These are the most common deviations and can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or refractive treatment such as laser eye surgery.
High-order aberrations (HOAs)
These refractive errors cannot be corrected with glasses, night lenses or soft contact lenses. The cornea and the lens of the eye are not equally flat/smooth everywhere. There are small imperfections, which are present to a greater or lesser extent. This differs per person.
These imperfections can, depending on the extent to which they are present and the shape, give less quality of vision. You can notice this, for example, in less good vision in the dark, halos around light sources and less contrast of letters and images.
Best result
When we perform the eye laser treatment customised, we respect the shape of the cornea. We treat the refraction (strength) without creating new HOAs. This benefits your vision quality. If you were to not do this, there is a chance that new imperfections will appear on the cornea. This will cause you to have a poorer vision quality. This manifests itself in more and permanent problems with halos, glare, and/or starbursting.

Therefore always customized
To achieve the best results, we recommend that you always perform laser eye treatment in a customized manner, especially when one or more of the following points apply:
- Dilated pupils;
- Strength from 1.00 (both minus and plus);
- Cylinder of 1 or more;
- Color shifting, halos, glare, starbursting are already present;
- Regular driving in the dark;
- Occupation where visual quality is important (think of a photographer, graphic designer, etc.).
ReLEx SMILE laser treatment
This is a different type of treatment compared to our other laser treatments. If this treatment is suitable for your eyes, the standard ReLEx SMILE treatment always gives the best result including the quality of your vision.
Request a preliminary examination
