Posterior capsule opacification (PCO)

Cataract and posterior capsule opacification (PCO) are two different things. You can’t compare them with each other. Almost everyone who has had cataract surgery in the hospital or a ReplaceLens treatment at FYEO will eventually have to deal with after-cataract. What is this and how do you get rid of it? What is cataract

During cataract surgery or ReplaceLens treatment, the natural lens is replaced by an artificial lens. This artificial lens is placed in the natural lens bag (lens capsule). After a while, a kind of deposit can form on the lens bag or this clouding can already be present before your ReplaceLens treatment. This is called posterior capsule opacification (PCO).

Posterior capsule opacification (PCO) symptoms

When you suffer from posterior capsule opacification, you often notice this by a slight haze on your vision. Compare it to looking through a plastic bag. This effect can start very slightly and become increasingly worse. This can be noticeable immediately after the treatment, but can also occur years later.

Posterior capsule opacification treatment

Do you notice that you suffer from a haze on your vision and have you previously had a ReplaceLens treatment? Then there is a good chance that you suffer from posterior capsule opacification. Fortunately, this is very easy to fix with a small procedure. The ophthalmologist can simply fix this in the treatment room. You do not have to go to the operating room for this.

A special laser is used to make a small hole in the natural lens bag. The haze disappears immediately and you can enjoy sharp vision again. This small procedure is completely painless and completed within a few minutes.
