Drs. Richard Hommersom

At FYEO we work according to the latest developments

Drs. Richard Hommersom started his career with an interest in neurology. But during his ophthalmology internship in Borneo, he was inspired by an ophthalmologist. That enthusiasm led him to specialize in ophthalmology. Drs. Hommersom has been an ophthalmologist since 2004. Every year he returns to Borneo to perform cataract surgeries as a volunteer. He started at FYEO in 2016 and combines his work with general ophthalmology in a hospital. There he performs, among other things, minimal incision glaucoma surgery, or the placement of stents in glaucoma patients. Drs. Hommersom: “I find the alternation between working with patients in the hospital and clients at FYEO particularly valuable and inspiring.”

State of the art

Drs. Hommersom feels at home at FYEO. ”The collaboration with optometrists, the secretariat and the operating room staff is fantastic. It is a friendly and safe environment where I feel very much at home. I have not regretted my decision to come and work here for a moment. Certain innovations are difficult to implement in the hospital. At FYEO I get the chance to work with new techniques such as a robot for lens implants and the latest generation of laser equipment.”

“Ophthalmology is a dynamic and technical field in which innovations are constantly taking place,” says Drs. Hommersom. “At FYEO we are always at the forefront of new developments, such as faster lasers, better lenses and new techniques. It is nice that I can work with state-of-the-art equipment, which allows me to practice my profession at the highest level.”

Good preparation

Making clients glasses-independent gives Drs. Hommersom a lot of satisfaction. ”They have high expectations and it is nice that I can meet them. I am proud to contribute to the best clinic in the Netherlands. Good preparation is important to me. Every operation requires precision and I get a lot of satisfaction when I successfully complete an OR session.”
