Dry eyes due to contact lenses

Contact lens wearers are more likely to suffer from dry eyes because lenses restrict the oxygen supply to the eye. Modern contact lenses are much better than those of the past because they allow much more oxygen to pass through. However, many people who wear lenses still suffer from dry eyes towards the end of the day.
After a long day at the office, you have dinner with friends in the evening after work. You don’t know yet whether you will continue drinking in the city after visiting your favorite restaurant. At around 23:00 your eyes become irritatingly dry again and you have to take out your contact lenses. To be on the safe side, you take glasses and a lens case with you to work. Familiar situation?
Dry eye lenses
Dry eyes are common in both contact lens wearers and non-contact lens wearers. You can spontaneously suffer from dry eyes if, for example, you are going through menopause or if you have an allergic reaction. The underlying cause of dry eyes is that insufficient tears are produced or that the tear film evaporates too quickly. The tear film is the thin, moist layer on the surface of the eye. But it is also possible that your contact lenses are the cause of dry eyes.
Do contact lenses cause dry eyes?
Lenses often provide less oxygen to your eye because your eye is simply covered with a layer of material that does not originally belong there. With hard lenses this is often worse than with soft lenses. Nowadays there are more and more silicone hydrogel lenses available to prevent dry eyes. One innovative lens is of course even more expensive than the other.
Laser eye surgery and dry eyes
If you wear contact lenses and suffer a lot from dry eyes, you probably pay top dollar for expensive silicone lenses. Laser eye surgery is a good solution. The first few weeks after the treatment, you have to drip the artificial tears that we give you to restore your tear film. After that, you will suffer less from dry eyes. “Do you want the best for your (dry) eyes?” Choose laser eye surgery and book a preliminary examination.
In addition to less dry eyes, you will save a lot of money with laser eye surgery!
