The team is great and the work is next level

“What appeals to me in my profession is that you can do a lot yourself,” says Drs. Frederik Dijkman. “I enjoy doing both the diagnostics and performing the surgery. It is satisfying that you can really mean something to people. As an ophthalmologist, you are very broadly involved within the limitations of the organ. From children to adults, from rare congenital disorders to infections and from aging symptoms to trauma.”

Drs. Dijkman started in 2006 as a general ophthalmologist at the Deventer Hospital and still works there. He specialized in cataract operations and tear duct surgery. When the new premium lenses came, he delved into that. Drs. Dijkman: “In Deventer we also train assistants. They come to us in their last year to learn cataract operations. That is also a challenge and very nice to be able to do.” In 2025, he started at FYEO in addition to his work at the hospital.

Striving for perfection

Drs. Dijkman appreciates the combination of his work in the hospital and at FYEO, because he wants to practice his profession as broadly as possible. ”In the hospital I mainly operate on people with cataracts. A cataract patient is satisfied with better vision and used to not mind having to need glasses for that. At FYEO I help people see perfectly without glasses. That is next level. It also requires a higher level of ophthalmologist, optometrist and all other employees. Working in a team at FYEO is great. Everyone really goes for it. We all strive for perfection. The state of the art lasers at FYEO are incredibly fast. The laser is ready within 7-10 seconds. That is only possible if everyone has prepared everything down to the last detail. I think it is great to be able to offer high quality and work efficiently. That is possible at FYEO.”

Client-oriented solution

What makes working at FYEO extra special, according to Drs. Dijkman, is the personal approach. “It is great when someone walks into the room with -10 and leaves with good vision. What makes my work at FYEO extra fun, is that I am not only working technically, but also really look at what the best solution is for each client. It is not a question of one size fits all. I like to explain the possibilities in understandable language. So that the client can make the best choice.”
